Causality and the Time-Travel Myth.

Causality (also referred to as causation, is the relationship between an event (the cause) and a second event (the effect), where the second event is understood as a consequence of the first.
It is obvious that the causal event must happen before the effect. The effect is a consequence of the cause.  The cause C, is cause only if the event C is previous to the event Effect E.
Though the causes and effects are typically related to changes or events, candidates include objects, processes, properties, variables, facts, and states of affairs; characterizing the causal relationship can be the subject of much debate.
The stone C breaks the window’s crystal E.
The explosion C burns the house E.
The time-traveler jumps back 2 hundred years. This is possible only if he, E, exists before his mother, C, was born.
If this is so, we have the absurd: The Effect precedes the Cause. The son exists before his mother.
It’s of course impossible to imagine a world where the effects arise before the causes.
If you believe that this is possible, think twice.

Chaos Theory and Butterfly Effect

Chaos theory is the study of nonlinear dynamics, in which seemingly random events are actually predictable from simple deterministic equations.
In other words, the deterministic nature of these systems does not make them predictable.
This behavior is known as deterministic chaos, or simply chaos.
In chaos theory, the butterfly effect is the sensitive dependence on initial conditions, where a small change at one place in a deterministic nonlinear system can result in large differences to a later state. The name of the effect, coined by Edward Lorenz, is derived from the theoretical example of a hurricane's formation being contingent on whether or not a distant butterfly had flapped its wings several weeks before.
Although the butterfly effect may appear to be an esoteric and unlikely behavior, it is exhibited by very simple systems: for example, a ball placed at the crest of a hill may roll into any of several valleys depending on, among other things, slight differences in initial position.
A chain reaction is a sequence of reactions where a reactive product or by-product causes additional reactions to take place. In a chain reaction, positive feedback leads to a self-amplifying chain of events.
Chain reactions are one way in which systems which are in thermodynamic non-equilibrium can release energy or increase entropy in order to reach a state of higher entropy. For example, a system may not be able to reach a lower energy state by releasing energy into the environment, because it is hindered in some way from taking the path that will result in the energy release. If a reaction results in a small energy release making way for more energy releases in an expanding chain, then the system will typically collapse explosively until much or all of the stored energy has been released.
A metaphor for chain reactions is thus a snowball causing larger snowfall until finally an avalanche results ("snowball effect"). This is a result of stored gravitational potential energy seeking a path of release over friction.
UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES.
Can be roughly grouped into three types:
A positive, unexpected benefit (usually referred to as luck, serendipity or a windfall).
A negative, unexpected detriment occurring in addition to the desired effect of the policy (e.g., while irrigation schemes provide people with water for agriculture, they can increase waterborne diseases that have devastating health effects, such as schistosomiasis).
A perverse effect contrary to what was originally intended (when an intended solution makes a problem worse), such as when a policy has a perverse incentive that causes actions opposite to what was intended.
Possible causes of unintended consequences include the world's inherent complexity (parts of a system responding to changes in the environment), perverse incentives, human stupidity, self-deception, failure to account for human nature or other cognitive or emotional biases.
As a sub-component of complexity (in the scientific sense), the chaotic nature of the universe—and especially its quality of having small, apparently insignificant changes with far-reaching effects (e.g., the butterfly effect)—applies.
Robert K. Merton listed five possible causes of unanticipated consequences
Ignorance (It is impossible to anticipate everything, thereby leading to incomplete analysis)
Error (Incorrect analysis of the problem or following habits that worked in the past but may not apply to the current situation)
Immediate interest, which may override long-term interests
Basic values may require or prohibit certain actions even if the long-term result might be unfavorable (these long-term consequences may eventually cause changes in basic values)
Self-defeating prophecy (Fear of some consequence drives people to find solutions before the problem occurs, thus the non-occurrence of the problem is not anticipated.)

Choosing your own Delusion.

Truth is that if you look for Tarot practitioners converted to Christianity, you will find also
Jews for Jesus
Xstians becoming Muslims
Muslims becoming Xstians.
Christians becoming cabalists
Buddhists becoming Evangelics
Jews Becoming Buddhists
A never ending game. However, nobody who believes that 2+2=4 becomes a believer in 2+2=5. Why? Simply because if I put two apples in an empty basket and then other two apples, I will always have 4.
2+2=4 is a fact.
However, someone else believes in the Tarot and then believes in Jesus born from a Virgin, resurrected inventor of the super-magical act of transforming the bread and the wine in the blood and flesh of the Savior, well, honestly there is no big difference. Changing Tarot for Christ is just choosing a new dream, a new belief. Now belief in the Catholic Encyclopedia is defined with the following words:
That state of the mind by which it assents to propositions, not by reason of their intrinsic evidence, but because of authority.

So, the truth is that in the Universe, nothing will change if someone changes from one belief to another.
You will probably believe that something is different now. Great. Why not?
After all the Evangelists hypnotize the audience telling them “to open their hearts to Christ” Any rational individual knows that this is nothing at all but a childish metaphor.
To make it short: choose your own drug-belief. Chose the delusion you like best. You are free to do that.

Betty & Barney Hill : the Abduction Meme is born

Betty and Barney Hills: Dr. Simon's conclusions
After extensive hypnosis sessions, Dr. Simon concluded that Barney's recall of the UFO encounter was a fantasy inspired by Betty's dreams. Though Simon admitted this hypothesis did not explain every aspect of the experience, he thought it was the most plausible and consistent explanation. Barney rejected this idea, noting that while their memories were in some regards interlocking, there were also portions of both their narratives that were unique to each. Barney was now ready to accept that they had been abducted by the occupants of a UFO, though he never embraced it as fully as Betty did.
Though the Hills and Simon disagreed about the nature of the case, they all concurred that the hypnosis sessions were effective: the Hills were no longer tormented by anxiety about the UFO encounter.
Afterwards, Simon wrote an article about the Hills for the journal Psychiatric Opinion, explaining his conclusions that the case was a singular psychological aberration.
Influential TV show
Paranormal investigator Brian Dunning reports that the hypnosis sessions occurred over two years after the reported abductions, plenty of time for the couple to discuss their encounter. In a 2008 article, Dunning calls their story "merely an inventive tale from the mind of a lifelong UFO fanatic... [and] is unsupported by any useful evidence, and is perfectly consistent with the purely natural explanation."[35] Dunning's statements, however, are not supported by factual information. Betty was not a lifelong UFO enthusiast. According to Barney's 1961 letter to Major Donald Keyhoe and early investigative reports, she had not read even one book about UFOs prior to her close encounter on September 19, 1961; nor had he.
An alien (played by actor John Hoyt) depicted on TV twelve days prior to the making of Hill's 'Grey' hypnosis tape
In his 1990 article Entirely Unpredisposed, Martin Kottmeyer suggested that Barney's memories revealed under hypnosis might have been influenced by an episode of the science fiction television show
The Outer Limits titled "The Bellero Shield", which was broadcast about two weeks before Barney's first hypnotic session. The episode featured an extraterrestrial with large eyes who says, "In all the universes, in all the unities beyond the universes, all who have eyes have eyes that speak." The report from the regression featured a scenario that was in some respects similar to the television show. In part, Kottmeyer wrote:[36]
"Wraparound eyes are an extreme rarity in science fiction films. I know of only one instance. They appeared on the alien of an episode of an old TV series The Outer Limits entitled "The Bellero Shield". A person familiar with Barney's sketch in "The Interrupted Journey" and the sketch done in collaboration with the artist David Baker will find a "frisson" of "déjà vu" creeping up his spine when seeing this episode. The resemblance is much abetted by an absence of ears, hair, and nose on both aliens. Could it be by chance? Consider this: Barney first described and drew the wraparound eyes during the hypnosis session dated 22 February 1964. "The Bellero Shield" was first broadcast on "10 February 1964. Only twelve days separate the two instances. If the identification is admitted, the commonness of wraparound eyes in the abduction literature falls to cultural forces."

WHAT ABOUT UFO?

What about UFOs?
First of all, 95 % of UFO sightings are recognized as natural or manmade phenomena.
The 5 % are important only because of the UFO industry, ego-trips and fantasists.
To speak about flying objects is conjectural. In my view, UFOs are not flying and are not objects.
The UFO meme is strong enough for some people.
A meme is "an idea, behavior or style that spreads from person to person within a culture." A meme acts as a unit for carrying cultural ideas, symbols or practices, which can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, videos, sounds, speech, gestures, rituals or other imitable phenomena. Supporters of the concept regard memes as cultural analogues to genes in that they self-replicate, mutate and respond to selective pressures.

The answer can be holographic: Holography  is a technique which enables three-dimensional images to be made. It involves the use of a laser, interference, and diffraction, light intensity recording and suitable illumination of the recording. The image changes as the position and orientation of the viewing system changes in exactly the same way as if the object were still present, thus making the image appear three-dimensional.

The holographic recording itself is not an image; it consists of an apparently random structure of varying intensity, density or profile.
I have no idea about whom or what is behind the phenomenon, but I am totally and absolutely convinced that the Extraterrestrial hypothesis is forged.
Until this very moment, there is no evidence of extraterrestrial intelligent life here or in any other place of the Universe.
There is a relatively big but totally contradictory mythology concerning Extraterrestrials, without any kind of evidential or rational value.
The presumed “extraterrestrial” messages are a sad mix of New Age, Pseudo-religion, self-help and very human ideas and prejudices.
Abductions are mostly planted pseudo-memories and fantasies or self delusions.
Same thing was with the “men in black”.
After more than forty years of research in the field, writing and talking with many people of different ages, social positions and professions, this is a short synthesis of what I think about the UFO phenomenon.

Fwd: [RationalUFOLOGY] aliens, demons and God

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: <Infowolf1@aol.com>
Date: Sun, Nov 18, 2012 at 6:35 AM
Subject: [RationalUFOLOGY] aliens, demons and God
To: rationalufology@yahoogroups.com

I have been asked to write something on my perspective
about all this. At the end of this, I am incl. some notes
excerpted from my earlier posts, in no particular order
but incl. ideas of some relevance to all this. At the end
is material from other posts.

Here's what I think, after decades of sorting stuff out.

Flesh and blood aliens may exist. By that I mean things with
no human ancestry except for hybridization at some point, but
whose base material is not earth originate or not human originate.

This does not prove evolution if it is found, more like the opposite.
Evolution is such a crapshoot, even by evolutionary theory, that
it is not likely to happen very often. So finding independently originated
life would support the idea of a Creator rather than blind evolution.

However, another scenario would be that all life originated on Earth,
and because of lost high tech civilization perhaps only pre Flood
perhaps also later, life at least intelligent life, went offworld and
for whatever reason changed radically.

If the aliens were separately evolved, they should not be able
to hybridize with us, yet there are reports of exactly that.

If they were separately created, as variant form of made in
the image and likeness of YHWH, to be managers on their
worlds, then it might be expected they would be generically
compatible with us and capable of fertile hybridization with
us, because eventually we would meet, and we should
be able to recognize them as being essentially the same as
us, just like different human races hybridize freelly, and vice
versa.

But it is possible all the aliens are originally human, with
animal and insect and reptillian DNA added in to engineer
varieties of people suited to work in extreme environments.

Or, someone took some smart dinosaurs like deinonychus
and so forth, and doped in human DNA to make them more
useful. And you keep tweaking this mix, and adding to it,
and at some point a line is crossed and instead of a smart
animal you have an animal seeming human being.

Whatever. John's Gospel, referring to God The Logos,
Second Person of The Holy Trinity, preincarnate Jesus, says
"All things were made through Him, and without Him was not
made anything that was made." chapter 1 verse 3.

God is also referred to as having made the heavens and the
earth and all that IS in them. that incl. things He did not make
directly but that were born from them according to His
benediction that they be fertile and multiply. And of course
things made indirectly by Him, the things made by other things.

That incl. of course genetically engineered beings, and buildings
of stone or wood, and whatever.

Romans 8:19-21 says the whole creation awaits The Second
Coming of Christ and renewal by Him. Colossians 1:19, 20
and Revelation 5:13 says similarly, that the salvation in Christ Jesus
incl. all things. Therefore aliens, if they exist, are included.

There is also plenty of evidence that there is a paranormal
component to all this. Some of it demonic beyond a doubt.
That flesh and blood aliens might exist is not inconsistent
with this, it is not either or, since a flesh and blood human can
have demons and impart them to other humans.

See a note below about the role of sex in this, and such
impartation of spirits or of influence tulpa like blob whatever,
or some psychic charge or message can be implanted
by physical contact during some palm reading or other
fortune telling. (I understand there are some hookers on
the road who are also fortune tellers, which is bad trouble.)

Pat Regan argues that demons are only as powerful as you let
them be which is partly true but not entirely, and says we have
to get control of our inner demons, apparently confusing the two.
Granted the inner demons that are not real can help those that
are real make trouble for you.

But if you are going to posit extradimensional or transdimensional
entities, you are describing what are known elsewhere as
angels and demons (and traditional experts on the latter warn
they can masquerade as the former).

The possibility also exists, that there are no aliens or pre Flood
GMO ET, but humans from the past several centuries or even
earlier, using secret discoveries. Maybe the Nazis got into space.
Maybe we got humans doing some wierd shit from more recent
times.

Alien, human, they are trouble, and/or evil as hell. Being flesh and
blood doesn't rule out their being demonized or at least keeping
familiar spirits which means anyone who gets a mind scan invasion
from one of them may become demon influenced just as could happen
between humans on earth.

Ce4 research has found that seriously committed Christians who
live for Christ and make their daily decisions with Him in mind, almost
never get abducted by aliens, and those who are attacked and call
out to Jesus will stop the abduction in its tracks. This is taken to
prove these are demons, and many may be. But this also works
against humans using powers whether from demons or on their own.

"transpersonal psychology is a school of psychology that studies the transpersonal, self-transcendent or spiritual aspects of the human experience. Transpersonal experiences may be defined as "experiences in which the sense of identity or self extends beyond (trans) the individual or personal to encompass wider aspects of humankind, life, psyche or cosmos".[1] "

isn't that the sort of thing that used to be considered a symptom of schizophrenia
and/or manic delusional states?

time jumping
either the experience they THINK is time jumping is an astral illusion
where they go into places that have the echoes, shadows, copies,
shells, residuums of the past and its people, which is of course
dangerous,

and/or

it is a nonexistent phenomenon, and as people try to duplicate this
using back engineering of technology hints described by Basiago
and Co., and realize it doesn't work the whole thing is in danger
of a serious debunking,

and naturally they want to discourage anyone not part of the fraud
trying to duplicate this stuff.

This is an inadequate effort to address the implications of
the name of this egroup. How should one be rational
regarding ufology?

1. time travel has nothing to do with it. neither is time travel
the same thing as teleporting. This is aside from whether
either of these are possible or exist. They just aren't the
same thing.

2. channeling is not rational in general, because to be
rational about something you need to be in control of your
senses, you need to be able to distinguish reality from
fantasy, and that presupposes NOT being trance states,
also you need to know what and who you are dealing with
and how credible they are. Anyone human demon or alien
could be sending stuff, and it could be one thing one day
and another another and your own craziness and dreams
half the time.

So the latest blather from zetatalk or whatever is categorically
crap. I don't even read those posts.

3. Exopolitics is a wierd idea, in itself. I mean, how do you
engage in political or diplomatic or whatever interactions with
some people who don't talk to you publically? The most
expolitics can do is study what little there is that might tell us
something about them, and prepare to deal with whatever might
happen.

pretentious announcements like in one of the links in the link
section about cutting a new deal for humanity with the ETs
is pretty lame. How do you do it? According to reports these
things ALREADY cut a deal with US authorities (or rogue
authorities, the so called treaty being null and void since never
voted on by Congress), and didn't keep their word on at least
two extremely important point.

IN GENERAL, be very very dubious about anything that
makes you feel unique, special, exalted, etc. From lying
seducers to drugs to con gamers, these are the lures. They
appeal to the spiritual sins of pride, vainglory, ambition, etc.
etc. and lead to no good.

Just because something feels good doesn't mean it is.

some people's instincts are screwed all to hell and can't be
trusted. Being too sure of yourself can be a trap.

3. The phenomenon, whatever it is, and it may be several,
is DECEPTIVE. Whether human secret, or alien regardless
of whether these be earth origin from antiquity or separate
created lineage from us entirely, or demonic, it is still
deceptive.

Therefore every caution should be taken.

4. Abductees are not entirely dependent on hypnosis to get
the information. There are sometimes physical evidences, these
have been hashed over in videos, on blogs and in books. I won't
go into it here. Some abductees remember everything consciously,
but that seems rare. Most have some partial initial memory, some
remember a lot and get details from hypnosis.

Hypnosis has broken through screen memories, so that an
apparently human usually nordic is shown in fact to be a disguised
grey.

The memories are from conditions of terror, deception and so forth,
so can't be taken at face value, HOWEVER when you collect lots
and lots of information from people who don't know each other
you can correlate the similarities.

This is true regardless of what the abductors actually are.

The skills you need to sort this mess out are those of intelligence
agency analysts. Go study up on this.

you left out something. McKinnon said he found references to
ship names not in the list of Naval ships and fleet to fleet
transfers and "non-terrestrial officers."

frankly this sounds more like the rumored earth origin secret
space program and Richard Dolan's breakaway civilization,
than it does aliens, though there seems to have been a mention
of the latter.

when you have sex with anyone, you create a soul link with
them. you impart spirits you have, if any, to them, and they
impart spirits, if they have any, to you. This can happen
regardless of your role in the situation, incl. being molested
as a child. Some spirits run in families because of other
reasons not sexual per se.

This can manifest as obsessions and compulsions
especially in the category of things popular society
mocks at being called sin, but are sin. This can
manifest in addictions.

Kurt Koch wrote two or three books I think originally in German,
which dealt with occultism and its results. A large one detailed
case after case where people had sought healing from folk
witch stuff, and while the problem was solved, for themselves
or a sick cow for instance, new problems always developed
usually psycho spiritual. There might be for instance an
alcoholism problem develop in them or their children. And so
forth.

Those who go to fortune tellers and to those with familiar
spirits or spirit guides, etc. for advice do what The Bible
warns is defiling oneselff with these. Indeed, this can be
the start of a growing state of deception or prelest and
it can get pretty bad.

An interesting thing I ran into from two sources, one a
preacher and one a drug counsellor of an acquaintance
of mine. Both agreed, when you get into any kind of
compulsive behavior, whether some kinds of religion,
occultism, sexual stuff, or in the case of the drug
counsellor's comments, drug abuse, you freeze at the
mental age you were when you started.

When you stop, you have to grow up from the age you
were when you started, no matter the age you are when
you stop. For instance, if this started in your mid teens,
you will continue to be like a mid teen mentally, until this
stops, then you have to at, say, fifty years old, grow up
from mid teenage to adulthood. Regardless of your
chronological age, your mental age has frozen in time.
drugs, you freeze in mental age.

The Impossible Rational Ufology.

Is it possible to have a yahoo group about Rational Ufology? Yes, it is possible because there is such group and is this one.  (40 members perhaps.)
Apparently the concept of rational ufology is oxymoronic. An oxymoron is a figure of speech that combines contradictory terms. Sometimes however, oxymorons are crafted to reveal a paradox.
Such thing perhaps happens with the concept of Rational Ufology as reductio ad absurdum.
If this is the case, Rational Ufology group was created to show the impossibility of rational ufology.
Anyway, we can ask ourselves if this R.U. yahoo group exists at all.
If Rational Ufology group exists, where it is? Ah…no, it looks like Rational Ufology as any other yahoo group has no inherent existence. Is empty.
However, not even this is true, because the RU group exists. We are the group, but this is not important.
Let me make some suggestions, dear people. If there is no Rational Ufology, also is true that there is no Rational Politics or Rational religion. If humanity goes on killing and maiming fellow humans, there is no Rational Humanity.
So, dear people, it looks like the whole thing is a big joke.
Ufology is no more irrational than politics, religion, moral convictions and anything else.
Alfred Webre after all, or Andy Basiago, isn’t more absurd than the Pope, the Priest, and the believer, the General or the Ayatollah.
Look at the paper. Look TV news programs, if you have enough stomach. Look the impunity in action.
Look the massacre in the name of God or Allah.
Question: If Ufology is Irrational, just let me know what is rational in this world of us.

Irrationally yours

UFO PHENOMENON AS CONTROL SYSTEM

Is it possible to synthesize the theory of UFO as a Control System?
Trying to do it is…doing it.
In The Invisible College (E.P. Dutton, 1975) Jacques Vallee posits the idea of UFO (and more of less related phenomena ) as some kind of "control system."
UFOs and related phenomena , proposes Vallee, are "the means through which man's concepts are being rearranged." Their ultimate source may be unknowable, at least at this stage of human development; what we do know, according to the French researcher, is that they are presenting us with continually recurring "absurd" messages and appearances which defy rational analysis but which nonetheless address human beings on the level of myth and imagination.
Are we inside a control system?
Jacques Valle says: If you think you're inside a control system, the first thing you have to look for is what is being controlled and try to change it to see what happens.
My point is that you can't be sure until you do something. Then you realize that what you were seeing, the thing that looked absurd and incongruous, was really a marker for a boundary that was invisible to everybody else until you discovered it because you looked for a pattern. I think that's exactly what we have to do with UFOs. We have to do something that will cause them to react.

VANCOUVER, BC – There was a time when Stephen Bassett appeared to be an
honourable Exopolitics advocate.  That time is no longer, as many in the
Truth community can attest.

The latest case in point has to do with the Citizen Hearing, a project for which I co-authored the
proposal 5 years ago with Steve Bassett, and for which I have been on the Board
of Directors for 5 years, as the website on Nov. 14, 2012 demonstrated.

Steve Bassett now has raised $1 million to carry out the Citizen Hearing
project, based on words that I authored, and in part on the strength of my bio
on the website.

Thanks for your words Andrew Hennessey

    Exofantasy - embarassingly obvious

Tomas Scolarici aka/James Black etc the Exopolitics skeptic has written another telling expose of the lack of something valid happening with exopolitics.
I agree with him and this is my reply to his memo.

Thanks for your update on the Exofantasists and their activities.
Its good to see you lay out the argument again.

It gets more and more obvious to the majority with each passing year that Exonihilism has nothing to offer anyone.
Fake whistleblowers with fake information, time travelling 'jump rooms' and DVD and fantasy scifi book sales are now very evident to everyone.

I would strongly urge people who are on these exo-fantasy lists to start collecting the old archive posts which comprise the various grandiose decrees, predictions and statements of intent and alleged warnings of the exo luminaries before they start disappearing off the back end of their servers.

As I did say a few years ago the whole idea behind a political movement like exo-politics is to have a mandate for political intervention and dialog in the event of contact. In over 10 years, despite all the academics involved there has not been ONE democratic manifesto for pro-human issues with non-humans.

I also said there could never be such a manifesto because it would require a loss of profit to human claimants through legal claims for compensation against those who disclose their involvement. Disclosure is Unprofitable.
An ongoing contradictory circus of smoke and mirrors, fantasy and semantic chaos, however, is Very profitable for the circus performers.

From my own evaluation of local evidence though it does seem apparent to myself and other investigators in Scotland that there is an identifiable alien presence here and that we have collected rather a lot of evidence for it locally.
It does interact with humanity but not, we have found, in any positive way.

Having looked into this phenomena I would tend to be very cautious describing these entities as 'starbothers' and knowing that the evidence for their presence and behaviour is ancient from the folklore records I personally would tend to characterise it as 'demonic'.
If I'm right – then you can forget about exopolitics and get into prayer.
Stephen Hawking suggests the human race would fare badly in any such contact and when J Allen Hynek's 'high strangeness' starts to manifest around us – it is true to say that the human race has to look elsewhere for intercession.

regards
Andrew Hennessey

Satan's mythology and Alien Abductions.

Satan is the adversary of the god of Abraham [AG]. Thus, Satan is evil personified. Many followers of the Bible consider Satan to be a real being, a spirit created by AG. Satan and the other spirits who followed him rebelled against AG. They were allegedly cast out from Heaven by their creator. Theologians might speculate as to why the almighty did not annihilate the "fallen angels," as he is said to have done to his other creations when they failed to be righteous (save Noah and his family, of course). Satan was allowed to set up his own kingdom in Hell and to send out devils to prowl the earth for converts. The demonic world seems to have been allowed to exist for one purpose only: to tempt humans to turn away from AG. Why AG would allow Satan to do this is explained in the Book of Job, where Satan is described as an angel who works in cahoots with AG. When Job asks why AG let Satan torment him the answer is blunt and final: Hath thou an arm like the Lord? The story of Job is interpreted in many different ways by theologians but my interpretation is that nobody knows why AG lets Satan live and torment us. AG is AG and can do whatever he wants. Ours is not to question why, ours is but to do and die.

Satan, being a spirit, is neither male nor female. However, like his creator, Satan is usually referred to as a masculine being. Many believe that Satan, or the Devil as he is often called, can "possess" human beings. Possession is bodily invasion by the devil. The Catholic Church still performs exorcisms on those considered to be possessed. Jesus is said to have cast out demons, i.e., performed exorcisms, and the Church considers itself to have been given this same power by Jesus. Throughout the centuries, many pious religious people have erroneously considered those with certain mental or physical illnesses to be possessed by Satan.

More frequent than outright possession, however, has been the accusation of being in consort with the devil. Satan is believed to have many powers, among them the power to manifest himself in human or animal form. The consorting has been recorded as often being purely physical and mostly sexual. For most of the history of Christianity there are reports of Satan having sex with humans, either as an incubus (male devil) or succubus (female devil). Witches and sorcerers were thought by many to be the offspring of such unions. They are considered especially pernicious because they inherit some of the devil's powers.

According to Carl Sagan, accounts of diabolical intercourse are common cultural phenomena:

Parallels to incubi include Arabian djinn [jinn], Greek satyrs, Hindu bhuts, Samoan hotua poro, Celtic dusii... (Sagan 1995, 124).

However, as a child being instructed in the ways of Satan by Dominican sisters, stories of nuns being raped by incubi in a priest's clothing were assuredly not told. The Devil was there to tempt us to sin, pure and simple. He was not there to have sex with us or engage in reproductive experimentation or breed a race of witches and magi. To be sure, his main temptations would be sexual. There was no doubt that He spent a lot of time using girls to tempt boys into impure thoughts and deeds. He would invade our minds continuously during adolescence, planting desires for sexual experiences too evil to be mentioned much less performed. I suppose, to be fair, the girls should have been taught to be wary of boys trying to get them to yield to sexual temptation and that we would use every trick in the devil's arsenal to get them to go "all the way." But the girls were taught that they were the temptresses and were therefore the ones who needed to keep from harming the boys with their female charms. We were taught to pray constantly, implore the intercession of the saints and the holy mother of AG, that they might give us protection against the snares of Satan. It must have occurred to many observers that the fear of Satan seems very much like fear of our own sexuality.

innocent angels

For all the instruction we were given on the Evil One, I don't remember ever being taught about Pope Innocent VIII and his persecution of witches and heretics. The Pope proclaimed  that "evil angels," i.e., devils, were having sex with many human men and women. He was not the first to have made this claim. Others before him, such as Thomas Aquinas, had explored this territory in great detail. Thomas reminds us that since the devil is not human, he can't produce human seed. So, he must transform himself into a woman, seduce a man, keep the seed, transform into a male, seduce a woman and transfer the seed. Something of the devil is captured by the seed along the way, so the offspring are not normal. Apparently it took Satan a long time to figure out that if he wanted to control the world, the best way to do it would be to breed with humans. Invading our bodies would be more efficient and effective than trying to invade our minds. But the Pope and many other pious men had a plan to exterminate the diabolical offspring: they would torture and burn them all! They would fight fire with fire! The Devil would not outdo them. In fact, the sadistic and monstrous behavior of the holy and pious inquisitors is almost enough to make a skeptic believe in Satan. The inquisitors were nothing short of diabolical.

One of the more interesting aspects of Satanology is the recurring theme of humans making a pact with the devil. The Faust legend is the best-known of these: in exchange for one's soul, Satan will bestow one with wealth or power for a specified time. In most versions of the story, Faust tricks the devil and avoids payment. In the original, the devil mutilates and kills Faust at the end of the contract. His brains are splattered on the walls of his room, his eyes and teeth lie on the floor and his corpse rests outside on a dunghill (Smith, 269).

Today, there are still those who believe Satan is a real being, but we hear few stories of incubi and succubi any more. The closest thing we have to such stories are alien abduction accounts and star children. Fortunately, for today's alien abduction victims with similar tales of sexual experimentation--the devil being replaced with aliens from outer space--there is no equivalent to the medieval Church to persecute, torture, or exterminate them.

It is interesting, though, that most of these murderers and torturers feel some need to at least appear as if they are doing good while they commit their horrors. What drives the terrorist or ethnic cleanser today to their abominations, or the witch hunters to their destruction of families, seems to be the same forces that drove the pious enforcers of the Inquisitions. Their behavior is almost enough to make a skeptic think that maybe Satan does exist--in the souls of these good people fighting for their noble causes.

From a philosophical perspective, the universal belief in evil demons is based on the need for an explanation of the enormous quantity of moral and physical evil pervading human existence for our entire history. I suppose, too, that devils in some way serve to excuse our own evil actions and mitigate our sense of responsibility for the harm we do. Psychologically, demons may well be a projection of ourselves, the worst part of our nature or the most feared part of our own nature. From a literary perspective, demons must exist. If they didn't, we'd have to invent them. They seem essential to so much of our storytelling--more essential, perhaps, than their goodly counterparts.

the waning of Satan's power

As the power of the Christian Church has waned, so too has the power of Satan. It is no accident that Satan reached the peak of his career at the same time the Church did, during the thirteenth century. During the Middle Ages, the Devil was said to have built Hadrian's wall between Scotland and England, moved huge stones to construct megalithic stone circles and dolmens, built bridges such as that at Saint-Cloud and the Pont de Valentre at Cahors, for the price of the soul of the first one who crossed the bridge, etc. Satan could perform magic, but it must be remembered that the Christian religion is basically a religion of magic, of sacraments which protect one from Satan and which change bread and wine into Christ, of miracles which contravene the natural order for good or ill, of resurrection from the dead and of the promise of eternal life. Satan represents the obverse of that order: black magic, pacts with the devil, wonders done contravening the natural order, the promise of eternal youth and wondrous powers. The Satanic Order was the creation of the Church, necessary to establish its own power over the world. Heretics, witches and sorcerers were a threat to the world dominion of the Church. They had to be eradicated. As the enemies of the Church grew more numerous and more powerful, so did the reign of terror grow and so did the power of the Church get established more and more firmly.

As the power of Christianity waned as the dominant social and political force in western culture, so too did the power of Satan. By the eighteenth century, in Europe at least, witch and heretic burnings had all but ceased. Today, most of us in the Christian world would consider it primitive and barbaric to suggest that anyone be hounded or killed for communing with Satan. Even those who are allegedly doing evil in the name of Satan are usually pursued for the evil they do, not for their alleged association with the devil. It is likely that most police officers, if they had to deal with crimes committed by Satan worshippers, would view the criminals as deluded rather than as really communing with otherworldly beings.

If the rise of modern science had anything to do with the fall of the Christian Church from its position of supreme influence in western culture, then modern science can take partial credit for the exorcism of Satan from western consciousness. Of course, the Devil is not dead yet but he gets his power from AG, and as AG's power wanes so does Satan's. Someday, perhaps, both AG and Satan will become impotent strangers to the human imagination. But don't count on it. Many theists today believe that the evils of today's world, and they are many as we all know, are due to the rise of Satan and the decrease of religious influence. If they had their way, we would all be praying more and working against the snares of the devil. I, however, think we have more to fear from these pious people than we do from the Devil or his admirers. Some might even go so far as to identify these pious advocates of constitutional amendments for prayer in schools as devils in disguise. I don't think so, though when you have AG's children murdering people at abortion clinics, there really doesn't seem to be much need for Satan. In fact, if Satan and his crew returned to earth they'd find that all the good jobs for devils have been taken by the pious of the Earth.

ON MASKS and NAMES.

Do not waste your precious time trying to learn what’s behind the mask
Of course, of course you will see…the handsome face of a young prince, but…
Watch carefully, and see that this is also a mask.
Now yes, now you have it.
Behind the mask you found the face of a God or an Angel or a Demon but…
No, these are changing masks of course.
You have time and good will and patience.
Keep trying and perhaps in the end you will find no-face.
If you do, please let me know.
My name?
Sorry about that omission. My name is NOBODY.
Some friends call me NOTHING.
Use any of these or none.

similia similibus curantur

Those who use their brains and know how to keep their emotions under control will indeed understand what follows.

similia similibus curantur  is the homeopathic axiom expressing the law of similars or the doctrine that any drug capable of producing detrimental symptoms in healthy individuals will relieve similar symptoms occurring as an expression of disease.
Now, this axiom can be applied to life in general, and not only in medicine.
This short but substantial suggestion will find your approval or, on the contrary, disapproval.
This is not important since what happens in this small but habitable planet called Earth, means absolutely nothing for the rest of the universe.

Ideas welcome.

Amazing "information " about the Galactic Council of 8.

In this classical ufological fantasy, we see how the things work for the fantasists and believers. Please read. No, please do not ask for any evidence. Exo-mythologists don't even know what the word Evidence means.

In an exclusive, in-depth interview on Exopolitics Radio with Alfred Lambremont Webre, former NORAD officer Stanley A. Fulham has stated that a regional galactic governance authority, (the 'Council of 8') made a dramatic decision in January, 2010 to put aside the law of non-intervention.

At a solemn meeting, the Council of 8 decided to intervene with their technology to clean Earth's atmosphere before an environmental collapse occurs on Earth, as has happened on many other inhabited planets with civilizations similar to our own.

The Council of 8 did so, according to Mr. Fulham's information, after reaching a conclusion that that our human technology could not now prevent an environmental collapse and species extinction on Earth from occuring.

According to Mr. Fulham, this is a rare decision by the Council of 8, and is partly a result of Council members wishing to preserve the unique positive qualities of our human population.

The Council of 8, according to Mr. Fulham's information, consists of the intelligent civilizations of the Pleiades, Orion, Sirius, Bootes, Alpha Centauri, Comsuli, Zeta Reticuli, and Pouseti.

Unidentified Flying Objects are not Extraterrestrial.

by Jacques F. Vallee
Journal of Scientific Exploration, Vol. 4, No. 1, pp. 105- 17
1990
from ScientificExploration Website

Presented at the Eighth Annual Conference of the Society for Scientific Exploration, Boulder, Colorado, June 1989.

Abstract

Scientific opinion has generally followed public opinion in the belief that unidentified flying objects either do not exist (the "natural phenomena hypothesis") or, if they do, must represent evidence of a visitation by some advanced race of space travelers (the extraterrestrial hypothesis or "ETH").

It is the view of the author that research on UFOs need not be restricted to these two alternatives.

On the contrary, the accumulated data base exhibits several patterns tending to indicate that UFOs are real, represent a previously unrecognized phenomenon, and that the facts do not support the common concept of "space visitors."

Five specific arguments articulated here contradict the ETH:
unexplained close encounters are far more numerous than required for any physical survey of the earth
the humanoid body structure of the alleged "aliens" is not likely to have originated on another planet and is not biologically adapted to space travel
the reported behavior in thousands of abduction reports contradicts the hypothesis of genetic or scientific experimentation on humans by an advanced race
the extension of the phenomenon throughout recorded human history demonstrates that UFOs are not a contemporary phenomenon
the apparent ability of UFOs to manipulate space and time suggests radically different and richer alternatives, three of which are pro- in outline form as a conclusion to this paper.

Initial Hypotheses

Over the last 40 years we have observed the steady development of a group of aerial phenomena generally referred to as Unidentified Flying Objects or UFOs.

After a brief attempt to explain the reports in terms of secret proto-types (the "Advanced Technology Hypothesis,") two major explanations have captured the attention of the public, the media and the scientists. These two theories are the natural phenomena hypothesis and the extraterrestrial hypothesis, or "ETH."

A large majority of the scientific community, which is typically unaware of the observational data except as reported in the press, continues to support the natural phenomena hypothesis. It asserts that all the reports can be explained as a combination of observing errors, classical atmospheric phenomena and human-made objects, possibly combined with little-known psychological illusions which are of no relevance to physics.

It concludes that no new knowledge is to be gained from further specialized study of the observations by professional scientists, perhaps with the exception of marginal improvements to the documentation of some altered states of perception.

A majority of the public and the quasi-totality of the UFO researchers have supported the ETH.

Under this hypothesis UFOs are physical devices con-trolled by intelligent beings from another planet who have been visiting the earth as part of a scientific survey begun at the time of World War very much in the fashion we ourselves plan to follow in exploring remote planetary environments. In their interpretation of the phenomenon, this survey includes the reconnaissance of strategic sites, the gathering of mineral and plant samples and sophisticated interaction with the human and animal life-forms present on the planet.

The recent interest in reported abductions of witnesses has contributed what many UFO researchers regard as convincing evidence that such extra-terrestrial visitors are conducting a series of biological interventions de-signed to collect samples of human tissue and body fluids and are engaged in cross-breeding experiments for genetic purposes.

Challenges

The slow but steady accumulation of detailed reports and the continuing research on old cases make it possible to test these hypotheses against an increasingly documented data base.

The Natural Phenomena Hypothesis does not fare well under these tests. Many reports are quite specific in terms of the physical and biological parameters that can be derived from an analysis of the interaction between the phenomenon and the environment.

A presentation by Velasco at the 1989 SSE Conference has pointed out that no less than 38% of the cases studied by the French CNES (Centre National Spatiales, the French equivalent of NASA) have failed to be identified in terms of natural effects (Velasco, 1989).

The environmental interactions most often reported include abrasions, burns and effects on plants, animals and humans. The work of Velasco and Bounias in Trans-en-Provence (submitted for publication) is a case in point.

So is the recent research done in Brazil, which will be part of a forthcoming report on field work conducted privately by the author over the last 10 years (Vallee, in press; a summary of the Brazilian studies was also presented at the July 1989 MUFON meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada). The observed phenomena include radiation effects and have not been accounted for by a combination of known physical and psychological causes.

At the same time, however, we find that the ETH, too, is increasingly challenged by the new patterns researchers are uncovering.

Five major contradictions worthy of special examination will be studied in this paper.

They have to do,
with the surprisingly high frequency of close encounters
with the physiological description of the "occupants"
with the contents of the abduction reports
with the historical extension of the phenomenon
with the physical behavior of the reported craft
We will discuss these five points in turn, then we will propose new hypotheses attempting to take these objections into account.

Argument One - Close Encounter Frequency

Approximately 20 years ago, when the first catalogue of close encounter reports was compiled (Vallee 1969), I was surprised to find that it reached over 900 entries, well beyond the expectations of most researchers at the time.

With the increased attention now placed on this category of sightings the lists of unexplained close encounters have grown beyond this early catalogue. Estimates place the size of the current sample between 3,000 and 10,000 cases, depending on the criteria that are used. We offer the figure of 5,000 as a conservative estimate.

This remarkably large number can and should be used as a challenge to the natural phenomenon hypothesis:
If UFOs were simply a peculiar atmospheric effect, such as a plasma discharge, most of the still-unidentified cases could be accounted for by taking into consideration the corresponding patterns.
It should also be stressed that we are not concerned here with the general appearance of UFOs in the sky but with close encounters only, those dramatic episodes in which witnesses describe a phenomenon in their immediate vicinity.

Yet the same argument can also be used against the ETH:
It is difficult to claim that space explorers would need to land 5,000 times on the surface of a planet to analyze its soil, take samples of the flora and fauna, and produce a complete map.
While the ETH could perhaps account for the 923 landing reports in our 1969 compilation, the theory can no longer be supported today.

Neither is the figure of 5,000 a good estimate. Many indications converge to show that only 1 case in 10 may actually get reported. Therefore, the number of close encounters we need to explain is probably of the order of 50,000. This does not take into account the fact that the overwhelming majority of our sources are located in Europe, the American continent and Australia.

It is logical to assume that the phenomenon is worldwide, and that we are missing the true magnitude of the problem at least by a factor of two. This leads to a figure of 100,000 events.

If we remain faithful to a strict interpretation of the ETH, even this very large figure still underestimates the real number of actual landings. Shouldn't we assume that extraterrestrial explorers would land on our planet without regard for the presence of human witnesses?

In fact Claude Poher and I found (using independent databases) that the geographic distribution of close encounters does indicate a pattern of avoidance of population centers, with a higher relative incidence of landings in deserts and in areas without dwellings (Poher & Vallee, 1975). If we follow this line of reasoning then it would be conservative to multiply our number by a factor of 10 to account for the high ratio of sparsely populated over densely populated lands.

This would place our estimate at million landings to be explained. In other words, if human witnesses were equally distributed over the surface of the land and if they reported every close encounter they observed, the data universe should contain 1 million records.

This number still does not take into account another important pattern in the phenomenon, namely its nocturnal character. First published in 1963 this pattern shows no significant variation between older and more recent cases and even yields the same distribution when a very homogenous sample of previously unreported cases from a single region is analyzed (Poher & Vallee, 1975).

Figure 1 below, shows the frequency of close encounters as a function of local time of day for 3 different, non-overlapping samples compiled by the author, namely (A) international catalogue of 362 cases prior to 1963, (B) an inter-national catalogue comprising 375 cases for the period 1963-1970 and (C) 100 cases from Spain and Portugal.

On these curves it can be seen that the number of close encounters is very low during the daylight hours. It starts increasing about 5 pm and reaches a maximum about 9 pm. It then decreases steadily until 1 am, then rises again to a secondary peak about 3 am and returns to its low diurnal level by 6 am.

After these curves were published other researchers have conducted their own studies which have led to similar results. In particular Merritt working from UFOCAT files, found that electromagnetic effect cases, physical trace reports and occupant reports had a major peak at 9 pm and a low daytime average. The occupant reports showed a secondary peak about 3 am (Figure 2).

Researcher Randles (1981) conducted her own study of 223 cases from the files of 2 British groups and found a very similar pattern of high nocturnal activity with a major evening peak and a secondary predawn peak. Abduction reports, however, showed a maximum about midnight (Figure 3).

Given such a stable pattern we are led to ask, what would the hourly distribution look like if we had a constant number of potential witnesses, in other words if people did not retire at night? The answer can be approximated by taking the average distribution of outdoor population as a function of time of day (Szalai, 1972) and computing a de-convolution against the sighting report curve.

This operation yields an activity curve that rises continuously throughout the night and peaks about 3 am.

Fig. 1.
Frequency of close encounter reports as a function of time of day.
A = 362 cases prior to 1963, all countries
B = 375 cases between 1963 and 1970, all countries
C = 100 cases from Spain and Portugal only.

It also shows that the total number of actual events should be 14 times the number of observed phenomena. This gives a total estimate of 14 million landings in 40 years if we strictly adhere to the ETH.

The question to be answered is:
What objectives could extraterrestrial visitors to the earth be pursuing, that would require them to land 14 million times on our planet?
It should be kept in mind that the surface of the earth is clearly visible from space, unlike Venus or other planetary bodies shrouded in a dense atmosphere.

Furthermore, we have been broadcasting information on all aspects of our various cultures in the form of radio for most of this century and in the form of television for the last 30 years, so that most of the parameters about our planet and our civilization can be readily acquired by unobtrusive, remote technical means.

The collecting of physical samples would require landing but it could also be accomplished unobtrusively with a few carefully targeted missions of the type of our own Viking experiments on Mars.

All these considerations appear to contradict the ETH.

Argument Two - Physiology

The vast majority of reported "Aliens" have a humanoid shape that is characterized by two legs, two arms and a head supporting the same organs of perception we have, in the same number and general appearance.

Their speech uses the same frequency range as ours and their eyes are adapted to the same general segment of the electromagnetic spectrum. This indicates a genetic formulation that does not appear to differ from the human genome by more than a few percent.

Such an observation, if the entities were in fact the product of independent evolution on another planetary body as stated by the ETH, would stretch our understanding of biology. Humans share the unique combination of gravity, solar radiation, atmospheric density and chemical composition known on earth with an array of creatures closely related to us through evolution, yet deprived of legs and arms like the dolphins or endowed with multiple eyes like the spiders.

It should also be kept in mind that the human shape has evolved in response to an extremely narrow set of constraints.

For example, it would not exist as it does today if the earth had started out with twice its present mass, giving a surface gravity of 1.38 times earth normal.

http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/imagenes_ciencia/cienci284.gif
Fig. 3.
Frequency of close encounter cases, including abductions, as a function of time of day
From "Modern Research by Jenny Randles, 1981,
UFO Study: A Handbook for Enthusiasts, p. 20 1, Figure 19

Such an environment would have forced the development of a stronger skeleton and might have precluded bipeds altogether.

Similarly, a planet with half its present mass and a surface gravity of 0.73 times what it is now would have radically affected our shape.

As pointed out by Dole (1969) if the inclination of the equator had been 60 degrees instead of 23.5 degrees, seasonal weather changes would be intolerable to us:
life would have had great difficulty in getting started and humans would have evolved in very different ways.
If the day was 100 hours long instead of 24 hours, mankind as we know it could not have evolved or survived at all.

How, then, can we expect that extraterrestrial visitors from a completely different planetary environment would not only resemble us but breathe our air and walk normally on the earth?

Even if, by some unknown principle of exobiology, the Aliens did evolve naturally into the humanoid shape, wouldn't they modify their bodies using genetic engineering techniques to enhance their ability to work and survive in space, as humans may have to do over the next century?

This last argument can be countered by assuming that our "Visitors" have precisely been created through such genetic manipulation into a form with which we can interact.

But if that is the case, why not produce human specimens biologically indistinguishable from the earth's population?

The ETH fails to give a convincing answer on this point. Even more intriguing is the observation that the reported display recognizable human emotions such as puzzlement, interest or amusement (as in the Betty Hill case of 1961 or the Valensole case of 1965). This suggests not only biological similarity but extensive social acculturation.

In summary, the physiology of the "Aliens" conforms to human biology and culture to an extent that is not compatible with the ETH.

Argument Three - Abduction Reports

The growing number of abduction reports is being used by a vocal segment of the UFO research community as further evidence that we are, in fact, being visited by extraterrestrial aliens, even if their origin has not yet been revealed.

In the context of the present paper, a careful survey of the reported behavior of the alleged ufonauts argues exactly in the opposite direction.

According to current UFO magazines and books, the number of reported and documented abductions is now measured in multiples of 1,000. Such incidents are characterized by what the witness reports as being transported into a hollow, spherical or hemispherical space and being subjected to a medical examination.

This is often (but not always) followed by the taking of blood samples, various kinds of sexual interaction, and loss of time. The entire episode is frequently wiped out of conscious memory and is only retrievable under hypnosis.

At this writing over 600 abductees have been interrogated by UFO researchers, sometimes assisted by clinical psychologists. Although nothing concrete seems to have been learned from these case studies about the origin and purpose of the visitors, those doing the investigations are vocal in their claim that the abductions are further evidence of the ETH.

In order to examine this claim, let us assume that extraterrestrial intelligence has indeed developed the ability and the desire to visit the earth. It is a reasonable assumption to expect that such visitors would know at least as much as we do in the fundamental scientific disciplines such as physics and biology.

Few ufologists, in fact, argue against this assumption.

In particular, the visitors would presumably know as much about medical techniques and procedures as our own practitioners. Today the average American doctor can draw blood, collect sperm and ova or remove tissue samples from his or her patients without leaving permanent scars or inducing trauma.

The current state of molecular biology - a science which is in its infancy on earth - would already permit that same doctor to obtain unique genetic "fingerprint" information from such samples. He could also fertilize the ova and obtain "test-tube" offspring, and it is conceivable that cloning could duplicate the beings thus produced ad

A team of scientists equipped with the commonly reported UFO technology would be in an excellent position to take control of blood banks, sperm banks or collections of embryos available at major research hospitals and research centers without creating the massive disturbances described by abduction researchers. They would be able to accomplish it while escaping detection.

Equipped with the state-of-the-art techniques of current U.S. medicine, it would be conceivable that the entire human race could, in time, be restarted from this pool of genetic material.

Even gene therapy and the creation of hybrid species is well within our theoretical horizon, even if it has not completely been reduced to practice. None of these accomplishments require the procedural behavior of the "Alien Doctors" described by abduction researchers. The means of permanently erasing the memory of the victims through the use of appropriate drugs are also available in the current pharmacopeia.

Whatever the supposed "Aliens" are doing, if they actually perform what appear to be shockingly crude and cruel simulacra of biological experiments on the bodies of their abductees, is unlikely to represent a scientific mission relevant to the goals of extraterrestrial visitors.

The answers may have to be sought in other directions.

Argument Four - History

The ETH was initially formulated at a time when the earliest sightings known dated from World War II. It could be validly argued that this major conflict was detected from space and that the observation of nuclear explosions on earth precipitated the Aliens' decision to survey our planet, perhaps in an effort to assess the human race as a potential threat to other intelligent life-forms.

The mounting proliferation of evidence for similar phenomena not only before 1945 but during the 19th century and indeed in the remote past of our culture has become convincing, although some ufologists, borrowing an argument from their skeptical opponents, are now pleading that such data should simply be disregarded.

If it can be established that the phenomenon has indeed existed through-out history, adapting only its superficial shape but not its underlying structure to the expectations of the host culture, then we are unlikely to be dealing with extraterrestrials doing a survey of the earth. Nor are we dealing with advanced prototypes.

Again, a more sophisticated class of explanations than both the ETH and the advanced technology hypothesis must be sought.

In previous works I have pointed out that aerial phenomena very similar to our UFOs had been reported in the 9th century in the form of vessels in the sky, as airships in the days of Jules Verne, as ghost rockets in 1946 spacecraft in more recent times, as if they mimicked human expectations. Everything works as if the UFO phenomenon remained consistently one step ahead of human technology.

In the last 10 years, as molecular biology has become more glamorous than electronics or even aerospace in our modern civilization, it should not be surprising to find the "Aliens" per-forming simulacra of genetic engineering interventions.

The supporters of the ETH may have fallen into the trap of a first-level reading of the phenomenon's message.

Such historical considerations, combined with extensive research on mythology and folklore have led European researchers like Meheust (1978, 1985) and Evans (1986) to regard the entire UFO phenomenon as a projection of the consciousness of the witnesses. They point out that and legends, too, stay one step ahead of human scientific realizations.

This "Psycho-Sociological Hypothesis" has aroused considerable opposition among U.S. ufologists and is now creating a deep chasm between European and American ufology, with the former advocating agree, symbolic reading of the discourse presented by the witnesses.

The abduction claims are especially interesting to the proponents of the psycho-sociological theory:
It is difficult to find a culture on earth that does not have an ancient tradition of little people that fly through the sky and abduct humans (Vallee, 1969, 1988).
It is standard for them to take their victims into spherical settings that are evenly illuminated and to subject them to various ordeals such as operations on internal organs and "astral trips" to unknown landscapes.

Sexual or genetic interaction is also a common theme in this body of folklore.

Argument Five - Physical Considerations

As witnesses become less reluctant in the reporting of their experiences, the notion that UFOs are "somebody else's spacecraft" (in the words of Friedman) with the implication of a technology powered by advanced propulsion systems becomes less tenable, and possibly less appealing scientifically than other notions.

But the alternative explanations, notably the psycho-sociological hypothesis, also find themselves severely challenged.

The phenomena to be explained include not only strange flying devices that are described as physical craft by the witnesses but also objects and beings that exhibit the ability to appear and disappear very suddenly, to change their apparent shapes in continuous fashion and to merge with other physical objects.

Such reports seem absurd in terms of ordinary physics because they suggest a mastery of time and space that our own physical research cannot duplicate today.

However, if these sightings can be con-firmed either by direct observation, by photographic evidence or by the weight of statistics they may represent an opportunity to test new concepts of physical reality at a time when many theoreticians are grappling with the possible existence of N-dimensional universes, with N greater than 4.

New Hypotheses

In conclusion, it is useful to speculate about several hypotheses that go beyond the earlier theories listed in Table 1.

These ideas do take into consideration, with various degrees of success, the five objections we have re-viewed. These new hypotheses should only be regarded as a means of stimulating discussion, not as formal proposals (see Table 2).

One such line of speculation has been advanced by Devereux (1982) who has spoken of UFOs as "Earth Lights," an unrecognized physical, terrestrial phenomenon which impresses the consciousness of the witnesses to take the form of a mental image, possibly a mythological figure.

Derr and Persinger have extended Devereux' proposals.

In the mid-70's I proposed to approach the UFO phenomenon as a control system, reserving judgment as to whether the control would turn out to be human, alien or simply natural. Such control systems, governing physical or social events, are all around us.

They can be found in the terrestrial, ecological and economic balancing mechanisms that rule nature, some of which are well understood by science.

This theory admits two interesting variants:
An Alien intelligence, possibly earth-based, could be training us towards a new type of' behavior. It could represent the "Visitor Phenomenon" of Strieber (1987) or some form of "supernature," possibly along the lines of a "Gaia" hypothesis
Alternately, in a Jungian interpretation of the same theme, the human collective unconscious could be projecting ahead of itself the imagery which is necessary for our own long-term survival beyond the unprecedented crises of the 20th century.

British researcher Randles has stressed that the analysis of the discourse of abductees consistently reveals a breakpoint in time, after which the percipient leaves normal reality behind.

On the "other side" of this boundary ordinary space-time physics no longer seems to apply and the percipient moves as if within a lucid dream (or indeed a lucid nightmare) until re-turned to the normal world. Randles calls this phenomenon the "Oz Factor."

Building on this observation, one could theorize that there exists a remarkable state of psychic functioning that alters the percipient's vision of physical reality and also generates actual traces and luminous phenomena, visible to other witnesses in their normal state.

Finally, we could hypothesize extraterrestrial travelers using radical methods of space-time manipulation, notably the use of four-dimensional wormholes for space and possibly even time travel.

On this subject, see Morris, Thorne, and Yurtsever (1988). On multidimensional models, see Mallove (1988, p. 255).

Such travelers could perform many of the physical feats ascribed to ufonauts and they could also manifest simultaneously throughout what appears to us as different periods in our history. This hypothesis represents an updating of the ETH where the "extraterrestrials" can be from anywhere and anytime, and could even originate from our own earth.

The arguments for a multidimensional approach to the natural history of the UFO phenomenon have been developed by the author in the book Dimensions (Vallee, 1988).

Conclusion

Exciting as an extraterrestrial visitation to earth would be, this paper has pointed out that in the current state of our knowledge UFO phenomena are not consistent with the common interpretation of this hypothesis.

Neither do the observed patterns support the theory that all UFOs can be explained as combinations of natural effects, or as psycho-sociological processes. Therefore it is proposed that future research in this field could fruitfully explore alternative hypotheses, such as those involving either natural or artificial control systems, earth lights or wormhole travel.

The arguments raised here are not intended as a complete refutation of the ETH or the natural phenomena hypothesis. Until the nature and origin of UFO phenomena can be firmly established it will naturally be possible to hypothesize that extraterrestrial factors, including undiscovered forms of consciousness, are playing a role in its manifestations.

But any future theory should constructively address the facts we have reviewed.

At a minimum, the idea of extraterrestrial intervention should be updated to include current theoretical speculation about other models of the physical universe.
